Wow. How long? Four months. That is a very long time in the real world. Well, in the blogging world too. So I guess this page is pretty outdated.
I've been in Jozi for almost 3 months now. I'm actually supposed to be leaving in 2 weeks. Hmm...I'm not. I don't actually know when I'm leaving or even going home for a visit. It's a very weird place to be in really. I mean, I miss my family and I miss home, but I feel like I have too much I need to do here and I'm feeling to settled to displace myself again. Anyway, enough of the drama.
So much to say and not enough brainpower to write it. SA is an amazingly interesting place filled with fantastic people. The more I stay here, the more I learn. It is a very complex place - its history is a lot for a country to overcome, but it manages to try with dignity. Though the level of corruption and ignorance within some sectors are astounding. But even more developed countries have to face these problems.
What has surprised me is the little things I'ev taken for granted that don't apply here. For example, the electricity goes out in various parts of the city at different times because of a shortage or something. It hasn't happened to our house, but you notice it when you drive around and all the robots (traffic lights!) are off in an area. The crime certainly is a problem, but I think I was hypervigilant to start so it hasn't been that much of an adjustment. It is quite irritating driving with my handbag behind my knees to prevent a smash and grab, but it is quite nice being able to jump the robots when I drive at night.
I guess the next step is to find a job. I'll keep you posted.
